Why are they so stupid and lazy? This is a phrase I actually heard from one of my clients, frustrated that the 'people' were not responding to the change program he was in charge of. While this is clearly not the right mindset, many of us in the business of change have felt frustrated by what I call the "Change Paradox". The Change Paradox is that the very instincts companies follow to “drive” change - big programs, top-down mandates, heavy investments, short-term pressure - are the same things that prevent lasting change from taking root.
